Spasticity, Orthotics & Assistive Technology

Spasticity, Orthotics & Assistive Technology

At Beacon Neuro Physio, we understand that managing neurological conditions often requires more than traditional physiotherapy. Our integrated approach combines spasticity management, orthotic support, and assistive technology to help clients regain independence, improve mobility, and enhance overall function.

1. Spasticity & Tone Management

Spasticity and increased muscle tone are common after neurological conditions such as stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, or cerebral palsy. Our physiotherapists provide:

  • Comprehensive assessment of tone, range of motion, and functional limitations

  • Stretching, strengthening, and positioning programs to reduce stiffness

  • Referral pathways to Botox injectors for targeted spasticity management

  • Post-injection rehabilitation to maximize functional gains

  • Education for clients and carers on safe handling, positioning, and daily management

Our goal is to improve comfort, functional movement, and participation in daily activities.

2. Orthotics & Bracing

Orthotic devices can correct posture, support gait, and prevent secondary complications. We collaborate with trusted orthotists to provide:

  • Custom ankle-foot orthoses (AFOs), splints, and braces

  • Seating and postural supports for wheelchairs or daily activities

  • Device trialing and fitting, including adjustments for optimal comfort

  • Ongoing review to ensure devices continue to meet functional needs

Our team guide clients through training and integration of orthoses into everyday life for maximal mobility and independence.

3. Assistive Technology (AT) & Mobility Aids

We support clients in accessing and using assistive technology to enhance daily function:

  • Mobility aids: walkers, rollators, canes

  • Wheelchairs: manual and powered

  • Transfer devices: hoists, slide boards, shower chairs, rails

  • Customised seating and cushions for posture and pressure relief

Services include equipment assessment, supplier coordination, trials, training, and follow-up. We provide reports to support funding applications and ensure devices meet individual needs.

4. Integrated Care Approach

All interventions are coordinated within a personalised care plan:

  • Physiotherapy, orthotics are linked to functional goals

  • Communication with specialists, support coordinators, or case managers ensures continuity of care

  • Regular progress reviews ensure therapy and equipment continue to meet client needs

Our aim is to enhance independence, improve quality of life, and maximize functional outcomes through a holistic, multidisciplinary approach.
